Flatsy Prototype (Test piece)

Not a Flatsy-in-progress. Rather, a prototype, likely a test mold.
In other words, a sort of test-piece way before Flatsys were perfected. (3 photos)

Front view. No hair holes, no internal wires, not even the holes they later used for the wiring, but you'll notice the Flatsy panties (even with the vertical lines!, hard to see here) and the perfect Flatsy face, even Flatsy ears!

Back view. The imperfection you see is a molding imperfection because apparently they didn't pour enough plastic (vinyl) the first time. On her side, the left side of the picture, you can actually the where they poured the plastic from (not where they ended up pouring from for our Flatsys, by the way!). It looks like they had to pour more plastic at 3 different times (hence the two imperfections you see). Note the wavy lines on the back of her head simulating hair. (Look under the hair on your Flatsys, you'll see the same lines.)

A close up of her back, showing the Ideal imprint. It is NOT the same as what is on our Flatsys now. On the top, it has a small oval Ideal symbol (one oval inside another), but does NOT say said "Ideal" in the middle. This is a bit garbled as you can see, because of them repouring the mold. Below the Ideal symbol are the words "Ideal Toy Corp Pat Pend". This was likely the early version of the imprint they ended up using later. Plus, the doll wasn't yet copyrighted, she only had her patent pending. I believe her to be legitimate. Anyone trying to copy a Flatsy this way would have had to somehow plug the hair holes, and figure out a way to put a different, older imprint on her back - the imprint was part of the mold. Additionally, she has many little green mold dots in her vinyl -- something only older vinyl gets.

Where would you like to go now?
